Step 8: How to ruminate

(this is all part of the One Novel Three-Month challenge. Click here for more info)

So I finished on Friday at a high point, with 15822 words, which is actually kind of on track. However, at this point in the novel the main plot in only just really kicking off, so I suspect I'll have to cut parts of it in the final edit.

One of the things I'm worried about in regards to the book now, is whether it's actually a compelling enough story. The first chapter is essentially a short story, a prologue of sorts, the second and third establishing character and setting, and honestly I think they are a decent read- one of them is essentially a game of fantasy-cricket, but if I want something people would like to read, does it need to be more of a page turner?

Someone had this idea where they said I should release the work in serial form on some kind of online platform (or here) and what I'd do is, release one chapter (or in this case less than one, since the chapters are really long) and if it gets 10 reads, release the next one, then if that gets 20, release the one after, and so on. I quite liked it, as a weird means of promotion but also as a litmus test for how gripping the story was.

Unfortunately I would also be at the mercy of The Algorithm if I choose the wrong platforms (maybe I should just them all?). If anyone has any recommendations or thinks it’s a good idea, shoot me a message!

Today its back to writing, and I'm hoping to do at least 2k today after work. I finally outlined the whole book, with each story beat, in a mad splurge Saturday (so I suppose I still worked on it, I just did not write any of the draft). Which is pretty important to keep from meandering around too much.

Let's see how this week goes.
