Step 7: How to grind it out on the weekend

(this is all part of the One Novel Three-Month challenge. Click here for more info)

I am thoroughly caffeinated.

It's been an exhausting week. Live events Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, each with a performance, my day job, and the first seven days of this somewhat questionable project.

I've missed a few blogging days, because I just didn't have the time to spare between trying to promote the website (and doing so so in that regard) and just writing like hell.

Saturday was meant to be an all-in sort of affair, but truthfully, I woke up to the cold clammy weather, and my wife and I decided board games were the order of business, and played two games of Ark Nova back to back. Which was thoroughly relaxing and it meant I only go to the writing at 3 pm.

2300 words so far today, putting the total at about 14k.

It's not enough, is the truth. I have some more time today, so it's not over yet, and if I can crack out another 1k I'll be satisfied, and if I crack out 2k I'll be happy. I wanted to do 5k today, which is admittedly a bit ambitious, and also writing just does not work linearly in an effort = wordcount and time = wordcount fashion. Anyone who has tried to write anything of length knows that. Sometimes it comes easy, sometimes your down right constipated.

I have such a long list of things to do promo wise:

  1. Speak to some people that know what they are doing

  2. SEO the fuck out of my website in the hopes of the gods of Google delivering unto me some readers.

  3. Find other websites and post content there to draw some attention.

  4. Start panning for publishers, and with the first 10k, consider sending it in to those that only need 10k.

  5. Look for relevant competitions.

But my willpower is finite and my list long. Perhaps I am being too hard on myself though. 14k plus a new website and some presence on social media is nothing to sneeze at in one week.

Nonetheless, I want to be honest, and candid about this project slash journey slash competition.

I have had some wonderful feedback and support from people who say they read this or are otherwise intrigued, as well as positive responses to my videos and pieces on social media, which I used to never put up and are currently learning how to do like a fucking boomer.

Shoutout to Keats in particular, who is writing his own damn novel, the glorious bastard and has inspired me as much as I inspire him.

That's all for today. Let's see where the evening takes me.

Because ironically, coincidentally and appropriately, tomorrow I'm playing a game of John Company with the nerd-corp.
