Step 37: Reset

I made some questionable decisions last night, following a wonderful evening of talks at TEDx Wanchai. I've posted another short story at the bottom of this entry.

Since some of the attendees also read this blog, I will say that it was a lot of fun celebrating a hell of a good event, but despite romantic notions regarding Hemingway, it was not the most optimal way to produce good writing the following afternoon. That said, I've been spending more time with friends recently. I'm not exactly a recluse, but it's definitely a change. Hence the motivational picture below. Thank you, for all the kind words, both in person and otherwise.

Four days to go until the first draft of the fantasy novel needs to be completed. I did not get much done today, but tomorrow I have a lot of time, so it'll be one straight burst if I can help it.

Till then here's another short story. This one, for context, was written at the request of a friend. He wanted a description of a made-up alien species; their culture, physiology, home planet- a kind of world-building sketch. The species needed to be right on the cusp of FTL travel, a race that had just at that moment achieved the ability to colonise other stars.

I did describe that, but I told it through a short story. He, later on, used it to create his own custom race in a video game...but that does not matter, the story stands on its own.

It's a bit dorky, giving it a reread, but it was fun to write. I misclicked so it's classified as 'spiritual', but that's not too far from the mark.
