T-Minus 21 Days: One more book to go
I finished the second novel yesterday. Aside from the final chapter of Children of the Pantheon, I have one more book to write by December 30th. Today is day one of that book.
21 Days to write a novel, that would be a personal record....
But finishing Love and Taxi Queues has given me a boost of confidence. The finish line is in view, and it's possible. It's all possible.
I've been accelerating my writing speed, maybe because of the increase in pressure.
Love and Taxi Queues has been broken up into 30 chapters, for now. After an edit next year that's likely to change. The final word count is about 57k words, which is on the shorter end for a novel- but a novel it still is!
The last ten days I've written 21.5k words. Yeah, I'm proud, and I like using numbers.
Thank you to everyone who has offered a kind word- whether a short text, an online comment, taking the time to chat to me about my blog at an event, or the closest people I know- who have put up with me rambling on about plotlines, or better yet, asked me to tell them all about it.
All that encouragement means the world.
If you know anyone at all that does creative work, anyone who is struggling to output stories, art, dance, mime, stand up comedy- a word of encouragement, a bit of time asking them all about their work can mean the world. It can be the difference between succeeding that day and giving into the doubts.
Seriously, creating things can be a lonely, gruelling process, with little tangible reward, or even social proof, but for people that love/hate or need to do it, it as essential as breathing.
I can't stomach the idea of dying without having written all the stories or reading out all my silly poems. If you're working at something creative right now, hell, if you are working on anything at all, hold out for the good day, the day of victory- it will come, and when it does, take a moment to look down the mountain and enjoy the view.
Then keep fucking climbing.
